Dr. Sumita Prabhakar, gynecologist and obstetrician from Uttarakhand, has been honored with the prestigious FRCOG (Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, London). This distinguished recognition was presented to Dr. Prabhakar at the RCOG-2024 Congress held in Muscat, Oman from October 14 to 16. Dr. Prabhakar has made history by becoming the first doctor in Uttarakhand to receive this esteemed fellowship.
Dr. Sumita Prabhakar has dedicated over 25 years to women’s healthcare, specializing in high-risk pregnancies, gynecological surgery, and fertility treatments. Throughout her career, she has emphasized the integration of new techniques and practices in the medical field, significantly benefiting her patients. Her expertise and commitment to advancing women’s health have led to her being selected as the first Indian gynecologist to be awarded the FRCOG Fellowship.
This recognition is given by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) London, a globally renowned institution that acknowledges significant contributions to obstetrics and gynecology (O&G). The FRCOG fellowship is awarded to those who have made substantial contributions to the field through research, teaching, and regular clinical practice. To qualify for the fellowship, a doctor must have been a member of the college for at least 10 years, and Dr. Prabhakar’s outstanding work in the field earned her this well-deserved honor.
A proud resident of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, Dr. Sumita Prabhakar completed her MBBS from Banaras Hindu University in 1994. She went on to earn her MD (Obstetrics & Gynecology) in 1996 and then pursued MRCOG (London) in 1998 from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Prabhakar gained extensive experience practicing at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Malaysia, from 1999 to 2001. Upon returning to India in 2001, she worked as a consultant gynecologist at Sitaram Bhargav Institute of Science and Research, Delhi, and later as the head of the gynecology department at CMI Hospital, Dehradun.
